In 1986, Miller's End, Kentucky has become the target of something wicked. Many fall victim to a malevolent presence as a lawman and a mourning father are hell bent on solving the mystery and saving their town.

Vusi Madlazi returns to the South African village he left as a young boy (he was organizing against apartheid, and left in fear of his life) to bury his father. He meets up with his brother Ernest, who tells him their other brother Stephen couldn't be contacted. Vusi goes to Johannesburg to find him, but at first can only find his neighbor/girlfriend, Karin, a stripper. Vusi proceeds to learn how conditions have changed since the end of apartheid, not always for the better for black men.

A student and her teacher go to a secluded area in the middle of nowhere to practice open-air singing. There they run into a gang of local thugs who initially seem friendly but slowly reveal their sinister side.

A true-crime documentarian and her trusty crew investigate a small-town tragedy that’s faded into memory as a national joke. As her determination to uncover the truth becomes more and more intense, her methods become less and less ethical—until they become dangerous.

Two sound artists play and listen into the large hole of the Garzweiler open-cast mine as a self-experiment. The camera observes the conflict at the hole, looks and listens into it. All attempts to alleviate or stop the wounding of the landscape seem fragile, helpless and perhaps even futile.
